| Detour de France (deluxe edition DVD) |

AU$30.21
|
Detour de France is a documentary on the 2005 Tour de France unlike any that has come before it. As the producers say, 'Lance won his seventh Tour, but that was only half the story'.
The film offers a fascinating look inside the world's biggest annual sporting event. It focuses on three Australians reporting on the world-famous event: John Trevorrow (who is part of the Cyclingnews coverage team at the TdF), another journalist and one of their mates who is definitely not a journalist, but eats and drinks like one. Ironically, he ends up snagging some of the best interviews of the film.
All three bring a larrikin humour to their antics, which makes the film more than reportage and more akin to attending a sporting event as one of 'the boys'. Taking a layman's approach, Detour de France introduces the audience to the nuances of the event, exploring the terminology, strategy and the mechanics of the race.
The special "Deluxe Edition" of this DVD - exclusive to Cyclingnews and myflix.com.au - also includes a second DVD featuring the original music from the film, plus a 16-page full-colour 'scrapbook', packaged in an attractive hardcover fold-out case. And it also includes one of the gold kangaroo pins that John 'Iffy' Trevorrow hands out to the people he meets at the Tour. (Trevorrow is a former Australian road cycling champion who raced in Europe at the highest level and completed the Giro d'Italia. He clearly knows, understands and loves the sport, as his sensitive handling of reporting the anniversary of the death of Fabio Casartelli indicates.)
The film had a short theatrical season and also made the Official Selection for the Melbourne International Film Festival. "Detour de France is an enjoyable alternative to the hard-edged Tour de France documentaries," said Peter Krausz, the chairman of the Australian Film Critics Association. "The film is laced with amusing, to camera, commentary by the trio and features surprising interviews with Lance Armstrong, Ron Howard (in Paris filming The Da Vinci Code), Sheryl Crow and (Democratic Presidential candidate) John Kerry. You definitely do not have to be a cycling fan to be won over by this film."

| 2007 Tour Down Under DVD |

AU$53.72
|
Wilting heat, driving rain, and scenic South Australia set the stage for the 2007 Tour Down Under – a race that had everything from courageous breakaways to devious tactics to fiercely-contested sprints. The pouring rain was unexpected, this being the first time the TDU has seen a rainy day in it’s 10-year history, but the racing was as fast and aggressive as you could wish. No wonder the TDU is the UCI’s highest ranked non-European race. The Australian riders were out hunting for wins from the beginning, including 3-time Tour de France green jersey winner Robbie McEwen, Olympic track champion Stuart O’Grady, Baden Cooke, and Karl Menzies. Menzies got into the all- important break on stage 1 to take the first win and the overall lead, but the rest battled on for single-day honors. The mid-race storms only got the riders racing faster, including an astonishing 30-mph stage 3. And while Australian riders, and Belgian teams, dominated the stage results, a surprise victor emerges to seize victory by the tightest of margins. It’s all here for the first time on DVD from WCP! Commentary by Phil Liggett and Paul Sherwen.
Along with the 2007 race, the DVD also has highlights of the 2006 and 2005 races, and a special behind the scenes look at what it takes to put the race together.
