Hell on Wheels
Hell on Wheels is an excellent film about the 2003 edition of the Tour de France, following the trials and tribulations (of which there are many) of Erik Zabel and Rolf Aldag, two riders of the German "Team Telekom". But the cameras also show you what goes on before and after the events of the stages, with excellent historical footage used to put the race in its context of global sporting events. It's a fascinating documentary about one of the world's largest sporting events, as Cyclingnews' Gerard Knapp, says in his review: Hell on Wheels is "among those special sports documentary films that transcend the boundaries of interest only to the committed fan.
"It is perhaps one of the first cycling films that could help non-cyclists understand the passion and suffering of this simultaneously beautiful and brutal sport." (See complete review.)
The documentary was shot on film - and it shows - and the dialogue is in German with clear subtitles in English. The DVD is designed for DVD players set up for Region 4 (Aust/NZ).
